Homemade Pretzels

My household loved these pretzels and I know you will too. The best part about this recipe is everyone can get their favorite type of pretzel!

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups flour

  • 1 cup self rising flour

  • 1 and 1/8 teaspoon salt

  • 1 and1/8 teaspoon active drive yeast

  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar

  • 1 cup whole milk

  • 1 cup water

  • Water bath: 4 cups warm water, 4 tablespoons baking soda

  • Topping: 3/4 stick sweet cream butter plus your toppings: coarse salt for plain/original pretzels or 1/2 cup sugar and 2 teaspoons cinnamon for cinnamon sugar pretzels.

Instructions:

  • Pour all of your dough ingredients into your bread machine and stir by hand to make sure the flour and wet ingredients get somewhat mixed together, then set your bread machine on the dough function and walk away until ready.

  • Once your dough is done, flour a flat surface and roll your dough into a log and cut into about 10 pieces.

  • Take one of the 10 pieces and start rolling into a long rope string. Then, make a pretzel shape - start with an upside down U, then take both ends and twist at the bottom then move it up to the top and place on the other side.

  • You can repeat this process with the rest of your dough or mix it up and make pretzel bites or pretzel dogs.

  • Get two cookie sheets out and grease really well with Pam and place pretzels on the sheets.

  • Next, warm up your water bath mixture on medium high heat and place your pretzels in the water bath for 30 seconds or so and place back on your very well greased cookie sheets.

  • Cook pretzels on 450 degrees for 10 minutes.

  • Once pretzels are done, let them cool for a minute and dip in your melted butter and either dip in your cinnamon sugar mix or sprinkle coarse salt on top of your pretzels.

  • After that, pop pretzels back in the over for 2 minutes and wallah - beautiful pretzels!

  • Other options: Twist like a breadstick. I r use other toppings like the Everything Bagel Seasoning from Trader Joe’s or a garlic parmesan topping. You can also make dipping sauces like a icing or cheese sauce.
